Weight Watchers New Approach

A new month and a new approach: I've decided to give Weight Watchers ProPoints another try (yes, for a third time, what of it?)

Why? I feel like a bit of a change, I feel like I need a challenge and honestly, I feel like I've never got off on the right foot with this plan and want to give it a good go for a few months.

I still remember the day when my online Weight Watchers account changed to ProPoints. The nicest terminology I can use for my state was that I had kittens. All these new numbers and barely an explanation - I felt very lost. I think that was the start of my break-up Weight Watchers.

At the time I was an online member, my meeting had closed and there were no other meetings in my locality at times I was able to go to (there still isn't actually, which is a bit sucky). I was a Lifetime/ Gold Member at that point, so I'd only weigh in once a month, but I did still stay for the meetings as I really enjoyed them (until my meeting closed, of course). Obviously, as I was no longer able to get to a meeting I knew nothing of this change coming and to log into my account and see all my numbers changed and tracker re-calculated (mid-week too, ARGH!) I wanted to cry. The emails I was sent and the information on the website didn't make sense to me, and as much as I tried to make sense of it all, I just couldn't. I missed my leader and I wanted someone to talk to, to explain it to me.

I wished Weight Watchers would send people the booklets, or at least give people the option to download PDFs of them when you subscribe online (I know Slimming World let people online do that), that would have been so beneficial to me. I respond better to written material, I like having a book to reference and I like having some science and nutritional theory to read (nerd).

Due to this, I've never actually seen any ProPoints literature, which I assume is why I struggled so much with it. So, towards the end of last month, I bought myself a Weight Watchers Starter Pack to have a look through and see if I can make more sense of the plan this time around. They've launched their New Approach in 2013 (which from what I've read is all about feeling in control in your environment), so I figured now is as good a time as any to have one last attempt with this thing.

My motivation and inspiration is high right now. If you follow me on Facebook you'll have seen my inspiration collage:

These are all photos of me from 2006, when I had my first full year of maintaining my Weight Watchers Goal Weight. I'm not aiming to be this weight again (my, it was LOW) but I'm aiming to get the same enthusiasm for the plan as I did back then.

I'll be blogging more about my findings on the plan, how I'm getting on and some other bits throughout the next month.

Have you ever tried Weight Watchers?

  1. I believe that so long as we keep trying and never give up on ourselves we'll be OK :-) Look forwards to reading about your experiences.

    1. Thank you! The books have definitely helped answer any questions that I had and ironed out all the stuff I didn't understand before.
